What Did Janey Godley Announce About Her Health?

Comedian Janey Godley has revealed terrible news regarding her health: she is currently under end-of-life treatment after her cancer has progressed. Declaring she is now in palliative care in a hospital and would be moving to a hospice shortly, the 63-year-old Glasgow native went to social media to share her circumstances.

Godley remarked, appreciating the love and care around her, “I want to thank the NHS, my friends, and my family for all the support I have received during this difficult time.”

Why Did Godley Cancel Her Tour, and What Is Her Health Update?

The revelation arrives only one week following Godley’s tough choice to postpone her Why Is She Still Here autumn tour based on her doctors’ advice following hospital readmission. Initially diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2021, Godley is well-known from dubbed footage of Nicola Sturgeon’s Covid briefings throughout the epidemic. She was pronounced cancer-free in 2022, but later tests turned up the illness returning.

“The chemo ran out of alternatives, and I just couldn’t handle any more of it – now the disease has spread. This seems like it will be toward the conclusion, and it’s rather difficult to talk about and convey to people,” she said in her X video.

How Does Godley Feel About the Care She Is Receiving?

Godley thanked the NHS and all the medical professionals engaged in her treatment. “From the doctors to the nurses, right down to the wee woman who holds my hand and makes me tea, I appreciate everything they have done for me,” she said.

When she considered her circumstances, she said, “Although it is terrible news to realize I am approaching the end of life, we all eventually die someday. The enormous support has been fantastic; I’m unsure how long I have left before someone questions.” Godley sincerely thanked everyone who had been in touch. “Thanks, everyone, for all your love; know that I truly value the outpouring of love and the support you have given me.”

What Is Janey Godley's Background in Comedy?

Born in the east end of Glasgow in 1961, Janey Godley began her career as a pub landlord before establishing herself on the comedy circuit. She is also the mother of Dinosaur’s stars and actress and comedian Ashley Storrie.

After being seen with a poster bearing an obscene phrase at a rally against Donald Trump during his visit to Scotland in 2016, Godley attracted significant media coverage. Her humorous popularity grew even further when she started speaking over films of Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish COVID briefings, which resulted in a relationship with the former first minister.

Godley hosted the series The C Bomb and often co-presented on Loose Ends. Her achievements in humor were acknowledged at the Glasgow International Humor Festival in 2023 under the first Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow Award.
