In a 2022 interview with Empire magazine, Cameron admitted that the Avatar films were “all-consuming” and mentioned the possibility of passing the baton to another trusted director after the third or fourth installment. However, it seems the director has had a change of heart. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter recently, Cameron declared that only the Grim Reaper could keep him from making more Avatar movies. “They’re going to have to stop me,” he said. “I got plenty of energy, love doing what I’m doing. Why would I not?”

Cameron also confirmed that Avatar 4 and 5 are not only planned but already written. “I just reread both of them about a month ago. They’re cracking stories. They’ve got to get made,” he added, emphasizing his commitment to seeing these films through.
