Israel’s air strikes on Gaza City have gotten worse as the fighting between Israeli troops and Hamas shows no signs of stopping. The strikes, which have been going on for several days and are mostly happening in residential areas like Zeitoun and Sabra, have caused a lot of damage to civilian infrastructure. The Hamas-led civil defense organization in Gaza said that many families are stuck under rubble and can’t get to the injured or dead because of the constant bombing.

International pressure is growing as the violence gets worse. The UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and Japan all released a joint statement that drew attention to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and warned that “famine is unfolding before our eyes.” These governments want prompt action to deliver humanitarian relief to people in need, establish safe corridors, and ensure that life-saving supplies reach those who need them most. Israel has denied claims of malnutrition in Gaza, saying that the humanitarian blockade is due to technical problems, such as UN agencies not being able to manage relief shipments well.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has also asked Israel to let important medical supplies enter Gaza since the health situation there is getting worse by the hour and is “catastrophic.” Rik Peeperkorn, a representative from the World Health Organization (WHO), states that the delay in receiving assistance is making it impossible for hospitals to care for the increasing number of injured people.

Why is Israel getting ready to take over Gaza City?

The Israeli government has just approved a plan to take over Gaza City. This proposal was received with widespread outcry during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. The IDF, Israel’s military, hasn’t said when the occupation will start, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed the necessity to take down Hamas strongholds in Gaza, especially in the central area near al-Mawasi.

Israeli forces are still bombing Gaza City, and residents say that bombings have increased sharply. “The attacks are really bad,” said Majed al-Hosary, who lives in the Zeitoun sector of Gaza City. “The ground shakes with every hit, and a lot of people are still stuck under the rubble.” These kinds of words show how hopeless the people of Gaza are feeling. They have been bombed for weeks without a break. Here is the link to our article on the Gaza-Israeli drone strike.

What does the international community want people to do?

The world has sounded the alarm about the situation in Gaza getting worse. The UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and Japan all signed a joint statement that criticized the poor pace of assistance distribution and called for “immediate, permanent, and concrete steps” to make it easier for humanitarian workers to get to people in need. The governments also asked that deadly force not be used near humanitarian locations and convoys anymore. The UN says that more than 1,300 Palestinians have previously died in attacks near key humanitarian sites.

The Israeli military killing five Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza City on purpose was a very troubling turn of events. The Israeli Defense Forces said that the journalists were connected to Hamas; however, international media groups and human rights groups have said that there is no proof for these claims. Al Jazeera and other groups that support press freedom have spoken out against the strike, saying that Israel is trying to stop independent media from covering Gaza.

What Is the Situation for People on the Ground?

Hospitals in Gaza are full of injured people, and the local health ministry said that more than 100 people died in just 24 hours, with 31 of the deaths happening at relief distribution centers. Starvation is also a big problem, with multiple deaths linked to malnutrition, which adds to the claims that there is a man-made famine in Gaza.

Israel says its military strikes are focused on Hamas operatives, but human rights groups like B’Tselem are worried about how Israel is acting in Gaza. The group has said that Israel has committed war crimes, such as purposely destroying Palestinian society in the area. Some people in the world still think that the situation in Gaza is a genocide that is happening right now. Here is the link to our article on Trump Confirms Gaza Ceasefire.

Final Thoughts

The fighting in Gaza City is still going on, and airstrikes are getting worse, causing a lot of damage and death among civilians. Famine is becoming a bigger problem, and humanitarian aid is having a hard time getting to those who need it. This is putting more and more pressure on the international community to step in. Even though there are still arguments about hunger claims, it is apparent that Gaza needs humanitarian aid right away. Until a solution is found, the military activities of Israel and the response of its leadership will likely be the dominant topic of conversation throughout the world.
