How Many Dachshunds Attended the Southwold Sausage Walk?
It’s a great spectacle each year as more than a thousand dachshunds hit a specific beach along Suffolk coast, ready for their annual organised walk. AIG was again the famous Southwold Sausage Walk, where people from other parts of the UK and other places like Florida in the United States of America were.
In 2022, the event generated much attention and became official for hosting the most significant number of dogs of a single breed worldwide by gathering 2,238 dogs. This year’s turnout surpassed expectations; the event organiser added, “It has always depended on the weather and thank God for the sunshine.”
What Does the Growing Community of Dachshund Lovers Look Like?
Rather than drawing a crowd of more than 500 sausage dogs as predicted earlier, it gathered over twice that at the event. ‘It is such a good atmosphere, and because it has grown over the years, we now have stalls, we have music, we have a big raffle,’ they said.
This was because the chosen town, Southwold, was perfect for dogs and, indeed, was a very picturesque setting. “I certainly believe that where it is in Southwold is so nice; it is good for dog owners,” they further said.
How Does the Event Raise Awareness for a Cause?
Apart from entertainment and celebration, the event is also organised for the popular dachshund to help raise money and become more aware of Intervertebral Disc Disease, which is common in them because of their long backs. An organiser pointed this out: “You find so many people who now know each other.” That is one of the ways nobody is left out, and we all get to meet new faces. The male relishes explaining the procedure and says, “Ah it is just like a friends day out.”
They say the beach was “absolutely packed,” and they wondered how to organise this large-scale event. “When you notice that everybody is at the beach, and then when you get home and scroll through your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and whatever else profiles other people put pictures on your profile and tag you in it, that freaking overwhelms me.”
What Are the Future Plans for the Event?
The more they said: “You don’t realise how big it is.” “I am quite proud of it; I believe it is very successful, and it becomes more successful each year.”
Now in its seventh year, the organiser already has grand plans for next year’s 10th anniversary of the Southwold Sausage Walk. “My goal is to win that world record,” they said hesitantly. “Such sufferings must have for its satisfactions ‘Have a statue of a sausage dog in Southwold.’
