Fundraising Effort Aims to Provide Safe Sleeping Solutions and Respite Care
The family of 19-year-old Taylor Crowe, who suffers from severe impairments, is desperately looking for financial help to pay for specialized beds that will meet her continuous demands. Born with quadriplegia, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and severe brain damage, Taylor today depends on a bed designed for her when she was eight years old. Her condition calls for beds meant to stop her from falling out and maybe hurting herself.
Why is Taylor's Mother Seeking Help?
Emma Crowe, Taylor’s mother, started fundraising to get a portable, enclosed bed for their house. This action follows her inability to get money from their local municipality for the portable bed. Comment on this has been sought from Anglesey Council.
Emma clarified that Taylor qualifies for respite care, enabling the family to seek help during a break from their caring obligations. However, Taylor runs in danger outside their house without a portable bed. Emma noted the challenge of juggling their family’s requirements while guaranteeing Taylor’s safety and remarked, “It really would be something to be able to have a break.”
How is the Situation Affecting Family Life?
Emma and Peter have been working to spend quality time with their two boys, ages 11 and 16. “We have had all these years we haven’t been able to do anything with our other kids and enjoy our family time,” Emma said. By giving Taylor appropriate respite care and a bed fit for her requirements, she hopes the family can at last be able to enjoy trips and events together. “Taylor would be taken care of if we wanted to go to Alton Towers with the lads,” Emma stated.
What Challenges and Emotional Strain Are They Facing?
Emma openly said that although she did not want to “seem like I’m complaining,” the circumstances usually provide significant difficulties, especially regarding scheduling time to be with their other children. She was reluctant to accept aid for Taylor for an extended period, claiming, “She’s my baby. Though I have been afraid to be apart from her with other people, I have to consider my other children.”
The Crowe family has created a GoFundMe campaign to generate the money required for the specialists. Emma said, frustrated, “If I had the money, I would go and buy it all myself.”
How Has Taylor Defied the Odds?
The family said on their fundraising website that although doctors did not expect Taylor to “live this long,” she has been “defying the odds from day one.” Emma also discussed the continuous difficulties Emma faces in looking after Taylor, pointing out that limited wheelchair access in many eateries makes even small family trips challenging.
Emma and her family still believe that with community assistance, they will be able to get the means required to enhance Taylor’s quality of life and recover some much-needed family time.
