What Led to the Investigation and Arrest?

Lincoln’s death prompted an immediate investigation by Essex Police. A woman, believed to be 35-year-old Claire Button, was initially taken to hospital for treatment. After her condition improved, she was arrested and questioned in connection with the boy’s death. Following an extensive investigation, she has now been formally charged with murder.

“This continues to prove to be an immensely complex investigation into the death of a young child,” said a spokesperson from Essex Police. “My thoughts and the thoughts of all the investigative team remain with the family of Lincoln Button as we continue to support them through this awful time.“

How Has Lincoln's Family Responded?

In the wake of Lincoln’s tragic death, his family has expressed their grief. They described him as a “cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul” who was “adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.”

Lincoln’s family added in their statement, “Link was a cherished, loved, sweet, beautiful young soul who was adored by all and will be sorely missed every day.“

What Has the Community and School Said?

The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, particularly those at Bonnygate Primary School, where Lincoln was a student. In a statement, the school expressed its sorrow and confirmed that it is working closely with authorities as the investigation continues.

“His love for school, laughter, and cuddles will be remembered and missed dearly,” said a spokesperson for Bonnygate Primary School. “The school’s priority is to support those within the community who need help to come to terms with this tragic loss.“

Why Is the Public Being Asked to Refrain from Speculation?

As the investigation into Lincoln’s death progresses, Essex Police urged the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of the case. “It has taken a huge amount of work and dedication from the investigative team to reach this stage in our investigation. I would continue to call upon the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances around this case.“

The investigation is ongoing, and Essex Police have vowed to continue bringing justice to Button and supporting him financially during this challenging time.
